Initially designed  as an auction item for the annual A+D Museum fund-raising event in Los Angeles, this aperture is meant to open and close when heated, endlessly and tirelessly. An exercise in geometry and limited by a 4"x4" size limit per part, the sixteen-piece arrangement for the postcard was  translated into a  larger field of oculi for consideration as a valve system for a wall or ceiling. Eventually, the same idea gave way to the development of an flowering votive candle cover. When the candle is lit, the heat from the flame opens the lid. Once blown out, the aperture closes.
